What I’ve Been Wearing – Say Hello to Summer Edition

Happy Friday!  This has been a really nice week over here for us, and I’m really looking forward to a fun summer weekend!  For today, I thought a nice lighthearted post would be good, and a new installment of What I’ve Been Wearing with some cute ideas for warm weather styles!

For a fresh office look that’s not exactly a full suit, I paired polished suiting separates with a pop of colour and a bright necklace that reminds me of vacations.

  • Grey short sleeved blazer – Garage
  • Black pencil skirt – Suzy Shier
  • Pink tank top – Laura Petites
  • Black patent pumps – Charles Jourdain, thrifted
  • Silver necklace with turquoise pendant – souvenir from Mexico in 2012

This is a new dress that I adored from the moment I spotted it at Winners!  I really like the bright colour and the nice figure-enhancing black detailing along the sides.

  • Hot pink dress – Winners
  • Black strappy sandals – Naturalizer, “Prissy” model

This is one of my favourite blazers, because of its unique detailing and fun colour.  I like wearing it over a monochrome outfit to really bring out the blazer’s qualities.

  • Pink embellished blazer – AliExpress
  • Black lace cami – Smart Set
  • Black pencil skirt – Suzy Shier
  • Black patent pumps – Charles Jourdain, thrifted

These days, mornings and evenings can still be a bit cool, so I rely on a pretty, ladylike trench coat to keep me warm.  This was a cute little outfit for running errands on a sunny Saturday.

  • Beige trench coat – H&M
  • Pink dress with zip neckline – Venus
  • Pink purse – Miche, gifted
  • White flats – Ardene
  • Sunglasses – Rexall

Ah, flowy maxi dresses, how I adore thee!  This was the dress I wore to the wedding we attended in Mexico, but dressed down it’s perfect for a day of shopping, exploring, or just relaxing!

  • Blue maxi dress – AliExpress
  • Black corset belt – Ardene
  • Pink leather clutch – Aldo
  • White low wedges – Joneve
  • Sunglasses – Rexall

Those are some of my recent outfit picks.  I love summer clothes, it’s so much fun to play with flowy and flirty outfits!  I’m hoping to make this a more recurring feature, what do you think?  And what have you been sporting this summer?

What I’ve Been Wearing – Flashback to Fall Edition

Hi again, sweet friends!  I hope that you are all enjoying the wonder and cheer of the season.  Here in Toronto the city has been frosted with snow and pretty things.  However, I thought I’d take a trip a little bit down memory lane, to the pretty autumn we had as well.  Here are some of the outfits I really liked, and would love to enjoy reminiscing of the warmer weather.  As I was looking through these, I did notice that for most of them, simply adding black or nude tights and maybe boots would make them perfect for this cooler weather.

First up, my cute blue zip detail dress from Venus.  I really like this dress, since the colour makes me feel like it’s inspired by Kate Middleton, or maybe Bella’s blue blouse in Twilight.  I paired with my adorable pink polka dot peep-toe wedges from Suzy Shier from way back (2005?  I think) for a cute and casual look.  Since the neckline already had detailing, I accessorized with a simple crystal bracelet.

Next up, a more business appropriate look.  I paired a white Laura blouse with a highwaisted black pencil skirt from TJ Maxx, and added a red corset belt from Ardenes for a pop of colour, along with red lips!  With bare legs or nude tights, I love wearing my nude Nine West pumps since it has a great lengthening effect on legs.  To winterize this look, I’d pick the nude stockings over black, though you could  definitely wear red stockings for a fun colour punch.

Here we’ve got another fun office appropriate look.  I paired a short-sleeved grey blazer from Garage (worn over a white cami) with a fun printed skirt from Giant Tiger (yes, you heard me right).  I love using A-line flared skirts, they’re my favourite!  To make these office appropriate, make sure that the length is good, at least to your fingertips when it’s flared out.  Also, since the skirt lends itself to a more casual vibe, I’d suggest a blazer or crisp long sleeved top in order to keep it professional.  Of course, my nude Nine West pumps make an appearance again, as they’ve become staples for me.  I wore this outfit with an onyx pendant to go with the black in the skirt.

Of course, for days when I don’t feel like designing an entire coordinated outfit, a dress and neutrals will never go wrong.  This is a great ivory shift dress from Venus that has beautiful lines and great lace detailing, which needs no further decoration!  I paired it with a cute charm bracelet, and of course, the trusty nude pumps… which you’re about to see again.

Whee!  I love this blazer!  It’s fun and bright pink and has adorable detailing with the black flowers on the lapel and a bow at the back, and it was from AliExpress at a steeply discounted price!  I wanted to highlight the blazer, so although the pink in the skirt is of the same hue, it’s a much more subdued colour!  You might notice that it’s the same cami and skirt (and pumps) from before, but a new topper gives it a totally different look!  To highlight the girly factor even more, I wore a heart-shaped pendant.

I’ve really enjoyed this little stroll down memory lane, I think I’ll see if I can pull out some of these looks again with winter tweaks!  Which ones did you enjoy most?  What have you guys been wearing these days?

The simplicity of limited manicure options

Hello, dear sweet readers!  By now, you know that one of the areas Dash of Pink has a focus on is beauty.  While I love experimenting with fun new looks and methods, this is about my decision, in one area, to do the complete opposite and cut back!  As much as I love pretty things and pleasing aesthetics, I also find the simplicity and peace of minimalism very appealing, so I’m always striving to streamline, and this time I decided to attack my nail polish collection.  I’m admittedly a bit of a beauty junkie, but I found myself going back again and again to the same few colours.  Also, nail polish tends to get goopy and start to dry out and separate well before the end of the bottle is reached, so this should save some money as well.

Once upon a time, I had a wide rainbow of colours:  ballet slipper pink, Barbie pink, dusty rose, fuschia, red, wine, coral, nude, white, silver, pale lavender, deep purple, magnetic greyish purple, and black.  I loved all these colours, but my favourites were pink, red, and a sweet neutral like a French manicure.  So as these shades began to need replacing, I decided to simplify.  Eventually I whittled the rainbow down to 3:  red, bright pink (the colour I wore on our wedding day), and black.

The black I don’t even wear on my nails.  I’ve found that it works wonders on black shoes that have scuffs or peels, so I keep a black polish on hand for shoe repair haha!  For nails, I’ll stick to my two favourite mani shades, and I picked up a nail pencil for making a natural looking French mani.  Using those and a good top coat, here’s what I’ll be sporting for a while.

Bright Pink – this one is called Fuschia Power by Sally Hansen Hard as Nails.  I used to wear Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Nail Lacquer in Posh Pink, as that was the exact product I used for my wedding manicure, but switched because I couldn’t find information online about whether the Rimmel one was 3-Free.  They’re the exact same shade though, so I’m glad I found this one!  This is my signature, and my favourite colour in general!

Red – I use Right Said Red by Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure.  I know that all Sally Hansen nail colours are 3-Free, and a whole bunch of them are also free of formaldehyde resin and camphor.  I’m a pink girl through and through, but I do believe that red nails are a timeless classic, and sometimes you just want to evoke that old Hollywood glamour – plus it’s great for Christmas, Valentine’s and Canada Day/4th of July!

Neutral – Hands down (no pun intended) the easiest option.  I simply use the nail pencil as directed, and either buff my nails or slick on a top coat – foolproof fabulous French-ish!

There you have it, my little step towards a simpler, more streamlined routine.  Do you have a few favourite manicure looks?  Or do you like trying something new every time?
